This week my boyfriend and I planned on having a date night. I, of course, looked to @thingstodoinlexingtonky to pick a place for dinner and set my sights on KPOT.
As @thingstodoinlexingtonky’s post explains, KPOT is a Korean barbecue and hot-pot restaurant. This means you get served raw meat and choose to cook it on a grill or in a boiling pot of broth. I've always wanted to try a place like this because it looks fun and yummy, so I instantly knew where we’d be getting dinner when I found out Lexington had one.
The great thing about KPOT is that it’s all-you-can-eat. For dinner, it costs about $30 per adult. But for lunch, it’s just $19. We planned ahead to take the lunch route. The restaurant has a “food waste fee” for leftovers and doesn’t allow you to take them home, so if you go, be prepared to finish whatever you order.
The day we went, my boyfriend and I tried to keep our stomachs as empty as possible before lunch. We ended up going around 2 p.m. and were unimaginably hungry by that point.
Inside, the restaurant was stunning. When we walked in, there were really cute Easter decorations. It was overall very modern-looking with some Korean touches. Each table has a grill in the center and a burner in front of each seat.
KPOT’s drink menu was probably one of the things I enjoyed the most about it. You can get anything, they even had boba tea. I went with a non-alcoholic Piña Colada and it was perfect.
My boyfriend definitely had a better time with the food than I did. We both chose to do hot-pot. He chose Thai Tom Yum Soup to cook the meat, while I chose Tomato Soup. We each ordered a lot of meat (I really liked the Pork Belly). Unfortunately, my soup boiled and jumped at me the whole time so I lost my appetite a bit. My boyfriend didn’t have any problems, in fact he told me to include that he “absolutely loved it, thought the food was perfect, and would love to go back again".
Our server, Keaton, was awesome. He answered all of our questions (we had a ton since we had never been there before) and handled my boiling soup situation as soon as he could. He explained that it seemed to be made a little thicker than it usually is, so I’m assuming it’s not a regular issue.
I think anyone reading this should try KPOT. Even though the extra fee is annoying, their dedication to reducing food waste is admirable. I can see it being fun with friends or with a significant other so if you have the chance to, go try it!
