The romantic comedy. It’s a classic genre that can do no wrong. If you love a cheesy rom-com, or even if you don’t, there's no better time to indulge than Valentine’s Day. Whether you're with your girls in matching PJs, just getting home from dinner with your partner, or in your bed alone eating chocolates you bought yourself, a rom-com is the perfect way to end Valentine’s Day. I’ve crafted the perfect list of binge-worthy rom-coms to get you in that love day spirit.
Starting with none other than “Valentine’s Day” itself. Directed by Garry Marshall, the 2010 classic is perfect if you are looking for a more emotional and meaningful rom-com. The movie follows multiple interconnected love stories all set on Valentine’s Day. This film shows the audience that Valentine’s Day does not look the same for everyone by showcasing many different types of relationships and experiences. It’s hilarious, heartfelt and perfect for the holiday. The film has a phenomenal cast, including Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner. It still shocks me to watch how many major stars are in the movie.
The next one seems a bit basic but I can’t help but include it. “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is one of my favorites on this list. This movie follows advice columnist Andie Anderson, (I always thought her name was so cool), as she writes about how to get a man to leave you in just 10 days. Andie must find a man to use for her experiment. She lands on Ben Barry, who thinks he can get a girl to fall in love with him in just 10 days. Of course, as expected these plans backfire. This movie stars Kate Hudson and Mathew McConaughey, the perfect match if you ask me. It’s so funny, so cute and such a fun movie to watch. Not to mention the yellow dress Andie wears, which can be seen on the poster for the movie, is ICONIC and absolutely gorgeous.
The next on my list is sweet, quirky and perfect for Valentine’s Day. "50 First Dates" starring Drew Barrymore (I’m OBSESSED with her) and Adam Sandler is the next must-watch. 50 First Dates follows Henry who falls in love with Lucy but Lucy has short-term memory loss. So, Henry must find ways to make her fall in love with him each day. This movie made me laugh so hard and kick my feet. It was totally adorable. This movie is perfect to watch with your partner after all of your Valentine’s Day activities.
The next one is “When Harry Met Sally”. My mom introduced me to this movie many years ago, (along with “You’ve Got Mail” another great one) and since then we have spent many nights on the couch watching it together. It’s such a cozy and sweet movie. It’s sure to make me happy when I’m in a bad mood or having a bad day. This iconic romcom follows Harry and Sally on a continuous journey and love exploration. The two share a car ride from Chicago to New York, where they discuss if a man and woman can truly be “just friends”. Ten years later they unexpectedly meet again in a bookstore. This movie exemplifies reconnection in love and friendship. If a rom-com is starring Meg Ryan (queen of old rom-coms) you know it is going to be good.
The last movie on this list is Pretty Woman, a 1990’s iconic film. This movie is centered around the unconventional love story of a wealthy businessman Edward and the Hollywood prostitute he hires, Vivian. This movie stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere and is directed by yet again Garry Marshall. This movie is iconic for many reasons, it will not fail to make you laugh and is perfect for Valentine’s Day.
